John arrived in Texas in 1833 and lived in Robertson's colony until March 1836 when he enlisted in Capt. William Hills company in Coles settlement. He fought in the battle of San Jacinto in the first regiment under Edward Burleson. He is pictured in the painting of Santa Anna's surrender at San Jacinto as the fourth from the left of the tree wearing a coon skin cap. He was discharged May 30, 1836 but re-enlisted July 20, 1836 in Capt Harts company and served as a first seargant. In September of 1836, he became a member of Captain Coales company of rangers and was later appointed as a Captain for duty in the Red River which was confirmed by the Texas Senate May 31, 1837
TX Ranger, Pony Express Rider, Farmer, fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, started a Church at Joe Lee Community 5 miles from Rogers TX. He was best friends of Sam Houston and worked for him. He was at the surrender of Santa Anna. (The one not named)
